Race Report: Weekend of 9/22-9/23

Race Results

Kissena Fall Classic, Prospect Park, 9/22 (from Mikael H):

Myself, Wilson T, Teddy B, Aaron , and one of my NYU riders (Christian T) lined up for the Cat 4 race in Prospect Park on Sat. It was a smallish field as it competed with the CRCA race in Central Park. We had a simple race strategy – starting mid-race we were going to hit the hill hard with 2-3 riders at the front and try to eventually launch one of our riders off the front at the top. We hit the hill hard twice, but the Cat 4 field hung together as the speed on the downhill was slow! On the 4th lap, we did it again and launched Wilson off the front, who quickly bridged to a solo rider who had gone off the front. The two of them managed to stay away for a full lap before getting caught (right when I flatted).

Race Report: Weekend of 9/15-9/16

Weekend Results!

White Plains Criterium, NY, 9/16:

Edward B, Brian W, Cheryl W and Emily U all went to the White Plains Inaugural Downtown Criterium over the weekend.  According to Edward, the was perfect weather, not warm, not cold and the course was a simple rectangle. It was a really fast course too with two descents leading right into 90-degree turns. The roads were in pretty good shape too with only a few bumps and there was a lot of room in the turns. The race organizers did an awesome job with this one!

Note from Mikael, and Race Report – Weekend of 9/8-9/9

I will only be sending out a few more weekly updates with the season is quickly drawing to a close, as evidenced by the fact that I had to wear arm warmers for the first time since spring this week for my early AM rides! Where did the season go? My NYU students are back at school and I have a crop of new riders. Myself and Wilson will be doing regular weekend rides with the crew until the weather prevents us from doing so. I will post the details of these rides on FB. We had several friends do the NJ Gran Fondo under very nice conditions and had good things to say about it – especially the waffles served at each rest stop! I will be doing the Putnam Cyclosportif on 10/14th along with some of my NYU riders – details for this ride can be found here:  http://putnamcycling.com/index.html.

Race Report – Green Mountain Stage Race

Race Results

Green Mountain Stage Race, Vermont, 8/31 – 9/3

Report from Lucia M:

The GMSR was my first race since Killington, as I have been off my bike the entire month of July for travel. This was meant to be a training ride for me. TT was short and fast course with a climb right off the bat and a punchy climb at the end. The middle section of rollers were fast and if you kept your head down and body small you could make up a lot of time.

Race Report: Weekend of 8/18-8/19

Race Results –

Propect Park Challenge, Brooklyn, 8/18:

The rain, which started the night before and continued into the morning, drove away many competitors from the Prospect Park Challenge. The Cat 4 and Cat 5 races were thus consolidated into one field of about 30 riders, and the race was reduced to 8 laps. The competition started a bit late, with nearly everyone wet before they even rolled off the line. Right off the bat, Paul Y broke away with two other riders, though they stayed only about 5 seconds in front of the pack for the first two laps.

Race Report: Weekend of 8/11-8/12

Weekend Results:

Mengoni Grand Prix, Central Park, 8/11:

Brian W and Cheryl W raced in the Mengoni Grand Prix in Central Park on Saturday. Brian lined up with 100 Cat 3s, and according to him, he had a horrible race. The air at that time in the morning was very thick and humid. There were attacks from the gun, including a significant group of 12 that got away in the bell lap. Brian said that it came together right before Cat’s Paw and he was completely dehydrated and soaking wet and fatigued and rolled in with the field for 53rd. Cheryl raced with the 1-2-3 women’s field and finished 4th. Laurent was 23rd in the Cat 4 race.

Race Report: Weekend of 7/14-7/15

Weekend Results:

Brooklyn Gran Prix – Saturday, 7/14:

Brian, Steve Suto, Laurent G and Mikael H lined up in the 40+ race with over 90 riders. The pace was fun and fast, and it all came down to a highly contested field sprint. Brian was 11th, and Mikael, Steve, and Laurent were not far behind.

The women finally got their own race in Prospect Park (as opposed to being part of the masters field), in which Cheryl finished 5th. Aaron was in the combined Cat 4/5 race and finished safely in the field, narrowly missing a huge crash in the sprint.
