January 9, 2012Gotham Girls Racing, an amateur all-women cycling team, has joined forces with Signature Cycles and Rockstar Games to form a new women’s racing team in 2012. The team, racing as Rockstar Games/Signature Cycles, as a sub-team of the Century Road Club Association (CRCA), will compete in local club races as well as some of the premier races in the Northeast, including the Harlem Skyscraper Criterium, Tour of the Battenkill, Killington Stage Race, Tour de Millersburg and the Green Mountain Stage Race.

Gotham Girls Racing (GGR) was formed in 2011 with the mission of developing women who were interested in entering the sport of bike racing. In its first year, the team had success at local and out-of-town races, with numerous podium finishes. For the 2012 season, the team has welcomed two new members to build upon past accomplishments, participate in philanthropic endeavors, and host team events which will focus on breaking down barriers to entry for women in bike racing.

In speaking with Paul Levine of Signature Cycles about the team’s ethos and mission, it was apparent that the goals of Signature Cycles and Rockstar Games aligned almost perfectly with Gotham Girls Racing. “Signature Cycles for the last 3 years has worked with Rockstar Games to make the sport of bike racing more accessible to the average cyclist,” said Levine. “We believe our new partnership with Gotham Girls will further this goal and encourage more women to overcome the hesitations they may have about the sport.”

GGR is also excited to be continuing its relationship with Finishline Physical Therapy and its founder Michael Conlon. “With the expanded reach and visibility of two high-profile title sponsors and Finishline’s continued support, we expect not only to race hard but to deepen our mission and our commitment to the sport in 2012,” said GGR. “We look forward to working with all of our sponsors, CRCA and our friends on other local women’s teams to make this happen.” The team will also be supported by Blind Society, a consumer connections advertising firm, as another new sponsor in 2012.
