Cyclocross Nationals Report from Molly Hurford

As it turns out, racing after working four days straight outside in Wisconsin with minimal sleep and living out of a hotel is …. well, hard. Add in the fact that you’re starting in a race with Katie F*^$@ing Compton, and are relegated to the second to last row behind 80 other women, and that’s when you start praying for a miracle.

Anyway, Elite Women’s Nationals are no joke. On the start line, you had Katie Compton, Meredith Miller, Nicole Duke, Kaitlin Antonneau and plenty of other hard-hitting ladies. There’s something amazing and truly incredible about having this many women at this level lining up at once. I’m not sure exactly, but I believe the numbers have exploded in the past year where the women’s fields are concerned.

Riding Indoors: Keeping it Fun in the Off-Season

by Mikael Hanson of Enhance Sports

Talk of college bowl games and NFL playoffs are always a sign that winter is around the corner. We can now look forward to sub-zero temperatures, blowing winds, and frequent snow flurries – thus it is easy to get depressed when considering your winter training options (unless of course you are a skier – but that is a story for another day). Yes, there is always the gym, but for a cyclist, time on the bike is of utmost importance. However as the weather deteriorates and darkness reigns, I find that many cyclists actually dread climbing on their indoor trainer, starting that riding indoors is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Perhaps these people suffer from a lack of imagination, as I for one look forward riding indoors. For those who would class themselves in the latter category (dread), there are several things one can do to make riding indoors more enjoyable.

Q&A with MAC Champion Lucia Matioli

The Verge Mid-Atlantic Cyclocross Race Series is always very competitive. Racers from all over the East coast, and commonly farther than that, come to compete against one another from September through December. First-year Rockstar Games / Signature Cycles team member and first-year cyclocross racer, Lucia Matioli, finished up her season on the top step of the Women’s B division podium in this year’s Verge MAC Series. She’s a tough racer, which is obvious if you know how tough ‘cross can be. She’s also famous for the faces she pulls when she’s out there killing it. Here’s a bit of insight into what makes Lucia want to get up early in the cold and dark to go race her bike around in the mud . . .

Official Team Rockstar Games x Signature Cycles Race Bikes

With the 2011 season wrapping up, we want to give fans an inside look to see the incredible racing machines the team has been using this year.

The Parlee Z5 represents the the most advanced carbon fiber road bicycle available in 2011. Based on 10 years of refinement and evolution from Beverly, MA based carbon fiber experts, Parlee Cycles, the Z5 is one of the lightest bicycles available yet possesses amazing performance and all-day comfort. Available from the factory with custom, personalized paint designs and one of a kind builds, the Z5 defines what a great road racing bike should be. Light, strong, efficient, comfortable; the Z5 is a performance bicycle without compromise.

The special paint jobs were done in house at Parlee in Beverly Massachusetts. Just like our team kits, the bikes were painted a stealthy black, with slight white and pink accents.

We had Rockstar Games Logos painted on both the seat tube and fork, and Signature Cycles logos on top tube. Each team member was able to hand pick the various components (drivetrain, handlebars, etc.) that would be used for the final product. Some of these components included Shimano Di2 Electronic Shifting Systems, Aerodynamic Carbon Wheels, Michelin Racing Tires, and Ceramic Bearing Upgrades.

If you want to get a chance to see these bikes and their riders in person, check back to see where Team Rockstar Games x Signature Cycles will be during the 2012 racing season!
