Plenty of Rockstar riders in action and many races to cover!
Prospect Park, 7/7:
Aaron, Wilson and Laurent were in action in the Cat 4 race, which again had several KOM and Sprint points to be contested and Wilson gave everyone one of them a go! Race stayed together until last lap and strongman Aaron M was able to get a good line in the sprint and take 6th place.
CT Masters Criterium Championships, 7/8:
Cheryl W, Brian W and Steve Suto lined up for the CT Masters Criterium Championships at Walnut Park in New Britain, CT. There were many breakaways throughout the day that both Cheryl and Steve brought back in the 45+ race. With 3 laps to go, Brian fought for position and on the bell lap was 1st out of the last corner but started the sprint a tad early (try 450 meters out), but hung on for 6th overall.
Cheryl and Brain then quickly changed jerseys with new numbers and lined up for the 35+ race. Brian rolled in for 20th place and Cheryl finished nicely in the pack. We had a great day overall, with 40 miles of racing at an average speed of 26.5 MPH for the two races.
Pawling Mountain Road Race, 7/8:
Rockstar had a solid crew up at the Pawling Mountain Road Race. Mikael lined up with Paul Y in the NY State Cat 4 championship race, which was 2 laps and about 40mi. The hills were incredible and the field got whittled down on every ascent. Paul had great climbing legs on the day and was looking strong. Mikael got spit out the last time up the bigger of the 3 climbs, but was able to chase back on with 4 others and rejoined a now 20-person-strong field with about 5mi to go and 2 more climbs. The 2nd to last climb was the easier of them. Paul set a hard pace on this one, stringing out what was left of the field and on the final climb it broke up! I was unable to stay with the leaders over that climb, but Paul hung tight and took 8th overall (I would come home in 16th).
In the non-NY state Cat 4 race, the field broke up on the first climb, with 8 riders getting away for good – and Wilson was one of those 8! He took 6th in this race. Jeff L and Edgar C were both in the Cat 5 race, while the Masters event saw Keith H finish 12th. In the women’s Cat 4 race, Luci O hung with the lead women and took 3rd overall!
